SetForge Decode

Photograph a hand-drawn floor plan — get a set/shoot planner back.

SetForge Decode turns a photo of a hand-drawn floor plan into structured set/shoot planner JSON — the sketch becomes data the production can actually use.

The napkin sketch is now a shooting plan.

What it does for you

  • Sketch in, structure out

Photograph the floor plan as drawn — walls, doors, camera marks, notes — and get back planner JSON with rooms, dimensions, and positions.

  • Built for CineRender sets

The output feeds the SetForge shoot planner directly — the people blocking the set speak the same data language.

  • Hand-drawn is the input, not the problem

No CAD required, no redrawing in an app. The sketch you already made on location is the source of truth.

  • Reviewable, correctable

The decode is structured data you can check and fix — a wrong wall is one field edit, not a re-shoot of the plan.

Capabilities

  • Floor-plan photo intake — hand-drawn welcome
  • Wall, door, and opening detection
  • Room labeling and dimension extraction
  • Camera position and movement marks
  • Set/shoot planner JSON output
  • Human review and correction pass
  • Direct feed into the SetForge shoot planner

Proof, not adjectives

In active build
The photo-to-planner pipeline is in flight for CineRender SetForge users — floor-plan photos in, shoot-planner JSON out.
Structured output
Rooms, dimensions, camera positions, and notes decode into planner JSON — machine-readable, human-reviewable.
Set-native
Designed with the people who block and shoot sets — the output matches how shoot days are actually planned.

What they offer vs everything we offer

The planning suites own the schedule — stripboards, call sheets, breakdowns, built by hand from a script. SetForge Decode owns the step before the schedule: the location sketch becomes structured data that feeds the planner.

Questions, answered honestly

What exactly does it output?

Structured set/shoot planner JSON: rooms with dimensions, doors and openings, camera positions, and your notes — ready for the SetForge shoot planner.

Does the sketch need to be neat?

No. Hand-drawn is the expected input — the pipeline is built for location sketches, not CAD. Legible beats pretty.

What if it misreads a wall?

The output is reviewable structured data — a misread wall is one field edit. The human review pass is part of the workflow, not an admission of failure.

Do I need CineRender?

SetForge Decode is built for CineRender SetForge users — the planner JSON feeds that shoot planner. The decode itself is just structured data; what you feed it to is up to you.

Can it handle outdoor locations?

Honestly: it's a floor-plan decoder — interiors and defined spaces are the sweet spot. Open locations with no drawn boundaries will decode poorly, and we'll tell you that before you pay.
